The fastest ways to get on McCaine's shit list are to extol the virtues of the free market, or point out that both communist and socialist governments have been responsible for millions of deaths in the twentieth century. He has a tendency to close topics when they've gone on for a long time in a direction he doesn't like. Many SA posters dislike McCaine, but are afraid to admit it due to his penchant for banning people who dare to tread on his predictably fragile ego.

McCaine once fabulously proclaimed that no comparisons should ever be made between anything and "the gay experience", under penalty of bannination. McCaine's given reason was that, as the gay experience is a unique experience that can never be understood by non-gays, comparing it even in a favorable light to anything else might invite homophobes to feel free to criticize it. In other words, you can't talk about being gay because someone might have the gall to not praise McCaine for being gay.[Citation needed]
